About the Artist
My earliest memories of feeling most my "self" were when I was painting or drawing. My mother provided encouragement and inspiration. The walls of our home had no blank spaces, each square filled with artwork and there were vignettes of color everywhere. When I formally started taking art classes in elementary school, I felt like I was entering a place I knew, I belonged, a sanctuary. That sense remains with me today in my studio or outside doing plein air or wherever a brush or pencil is in my hand.
I have visited beautiful and interesting places both in my own country, the USA, and in other countries as well. Originally from Santa Monica, California, I left the USA for the first time in the '70s, backpacking in Europe, living on kibbutzim in Israel for a year, in Barcelona for a year. I later spent two years in the Caribbean, considerable time in South America, lived on the Big Island for many years. Currently I find myself in the beautiful seaside town of Villanova i la Geltru, Catalonia, Spain. Living in different "landscapes" has complemented my artistic formation.
Formally I studied fine art at Santa Monica Community College, Novato Indian College, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, and a lifetime of workshops with amazing teachers that continues to the present. Some of my more recent workshops have been with master artists Denis Sarazhin, Zoey Frank, Ruprecht von Kaufmann, and Joseph Lorusso. My work was selected for the juried exhibition of Canyelles, the Fira d'Art Sitges, and recently the 2025 Jackson's Art Prize extended longlist.
I enjoy doing commissions. If you have anything you would like me to paint, send me an email to explore what we can create together.
